That is about the only thing I can think of. By the time you log out and into the main/owner account, the startup items have had time to finish loading by the time the login item is launched. May be a login item which is relying on a macOS driver/Launch Agent/Launch Daemon which is slow to start, but the new user account does not have this Login item so it allows the new account to log in. I'm not sure what would be different between booting directly to the main user account, or by logging into the main user after logging in & out of another account when using an M2 Mac especially when you get about halfway on the progress bar. Try booting into the main user account by booting into Safe Mode. I highly recommend that you make a backup of the data in the main user (owner) account while you can.
